KUALA LUMPUR, April 25 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) is set to capture another significant moment in the country's sports scene through the comprehensive coverage of the 2024 Thomas and Uber Cup Finals in Chengdu, China, beginning this Saturday (April 27).

Bernama Editor-in-Chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj said that as the national news agency, Bernama never missed covering the world team badminton championships, with this year’s edition to be held at the Chengdu High-Tech Zone Sports Centre.

"The Thomas and Uber Cup Finals are indeed among the tournaments that often capture the attention of local sports enthusiasts.

"Recognising this fact, Bernama certainly does not want to miss out on presenting another comprehensive coverage on the national badminton team as well as reports on other national teams in this competition in Chengdu for the consumption of local sports fans," he said.

The latest 2024 Thomas and Uber Cup Finals updates can be accessed through all of Bernama’s platforms including Bernama TV, Bernama Radio and social media.

Bernama has also created a special page at https://thomasuber.bernama.com for sports fans in the country to get the latest updates on the competition.

Arul Rajoo said sports journalist Amiril Muttaqien Meketar and photographer Mohd Nazirul Mohamed Roselan had been assigned to cover the prestigious event.

He said they left for Chengdu early Wednesday morning (April 25) and are expected to be there for almost two weeks until the tournament ends on May 5.

The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) will be sending Lee Zii Jia, Leong Jun Hao, Cheam June Wei, Justin Hoh, Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik, Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani, Muhammad Haikal Nazri-Choong Hon Jian for the Thomas Cup, with Malaysia drawn in Group D with the 2016 edition champions Denmark, Hong Kong and Algeria.

For the 2024 Uber Cup competition, the Malaysian squad consisting of Goh Jin Wei, K. Letshanaa, Siti Nurshuhaini Azman, Wong Ling Ching, Siti Zulaikha Azmi, Go Pei Kee, Tan Zhing Yi, Ho Le Ee and Chan Wen Tse, will face a tough task after being drawn in Group B with Thailand, Taiwan and Australia.

Malaysia have won the Thomas Cup five times, with the last being the 1992 edition in Kuala Lumpur while the national women's squad have never lifted the Uber Cup, having only reached the quarter-finals in the 2004, 2008 and 2010 editions.

Bernama also covered Harimau Malaya's football exploits in the 2023 Asian Cup Finals in Qatar in January.
